Our Story

Hello, I'm Hui Han! I started A Piece of Mine in 2024 as a passion project while working full-time as a psychologist.

The idea came from a deeply personal place. Following a period of grief and loss in my family, puzzles unexpectedly offered us a space of respite. For me, sitting down with a puzzle - or in fact any screen-free activity - provides a concrete, present-focused anchor when my mind gets overwhelmed with sadness or worry. The name A Piece of Mine is a gentle play on words: a reminder that piecing a puzzle together can bring a personal sense of peace (peace of mind) back to our lives.

While I am not artistically inclined, I knew that there are many talented local illustrators right here in Singapore who could benefit from an additional platform. I am incredibly grateful to the very first group of artists who took a leap of faith and responded to my cold emails - back when A Piece of Mine didn't even have a logo, a website, or a track record to show. They trusted the vision from day one, pouring their unique styles, time, and hearts into these designs that helped bring the brand to life.

Beyond creating beautiful puzzles, I also wanted this brand to serve a deeper purpose. Using puzzles as an anchor, the heart of the brand lies in supporting and empowering the communities around us. We have partnered with differently-abled artists to showcase their artwork, designed culturally relevant puzzles to aid in reminiscence activities for individuals living with dementia, and continue to celebrate and share local culture through our designs. What started as a small idea has grown into a mission to bridge beautiful local art with tangible social impact.

Today, every single puzzle we create is lovingly illustrated by a local artist. This human touch is our continued pledge in the age of growing AI art. While algorithms can generate images at the click of a button, they lack the lived experiences, carefully refined skill, and the emotional and cultural resonance that our local creatives pour into their work.

In a fast-paced city like Singapore, where productivity is constant and everyone is always moving, a brand that advocates for slowing down can be a hard sell. Yet, that is exactly why it matters. My hope is that we can continue to sustain and grow, putting a piece of peace into the hands of those who need it most.

Thank you for being here on this journey :)
