Hello! I’m Dorcas - an artist, illustrator and picture book author based in Singapore. I believe in the value of art to tell powerful stories of growth, healing and love, and have done a range of work including graphics, murals and a picture book.

Though I loved expressing myself through art and writing when I was younger, I was often told that being an artist was not a practical career path. Believing this, I went into architecture for my diploma and bachelor years. After experiencing clinical depression and anxiety for a few years in school, I eventually made the decision to break my scholarship bond and drop out of university. At rock bottom, I went on a journey to find healing. Through a mix of therapy, journalling and expressive arts, I learnt to listen to my emotions, reconnect with my inner compass and love who I am within. I now share this renewed joy with others through the art that I create.

In 2023 I decided to switch to a Bachelor’s degree in Illustration at Falmouth University, and graduated in September 2025. “Mei’s Big Feelings”, my final year project, carries that core of what I believe. That art and stories can help us to heal, and love all the different parts of ourselves.

In 2025, I collaborated with Cuifen, a local compost artisan, to co-author and illustrate “The Three Hungry Microbes”, a children’s story about how, when we care for the Earth even in small ways, like through composting, the Earth cares for us. I have also painted multiple murals across Singapore, including “The Light Within Us” (2024), a community mural located in Ghim Moh that celebrates the life stories of senior citizens. With the community I led “Turning the Tides” (2023), a series of environmental murals located in the Boon Lay View neighborhood, co-created with kids and parents within the neighborhood, which won the merit award in the Lively Places Challenge.

I am also an active speaker and have given multiple talks and been on panel discussions, locally and internationally, including COY17 in Egypt. Ultimately, I believe that all of us are connected, and are free to be who we are, if only we turned inwards to love the light within.
